Back in 2011 I shot My Morning Jacket at Merriweather for the first time and it was mind-blowing. I saw an amazing show and more importantly (to me) I got some amazing photos. I’ve shot them almost every time they returned to Merriweather (missed them one year because of the WHCD and didn’t shoot them when they opened for Dylan) but I haven’t been able to catch lightning in a bottle the second time. Jim and company were pretty subdued for the first two songs of this show – “Circuital” and “Waterfall” – before letting loose a bit on “It Beats 4 u”. So ultimately I got very few hair flips (certainly no Hairflip Hall of Fame nominees like this one) but I did get to see a great show. The new tunes sounded amazing and I got to hear a bunch of songs off of “Z”, so I went home happy.
