Musically, this was a great show. Father John Misty was vibin’ HARD at this show and it was great to see how he’s improved as a performer since his last tour. Visually, this show left a lot to be desired. His last show at the 9:30 had great lighting and a photo pit. This show has neither. Hozier has a big hit on the radio with “Take Me To Church” and now he is playing big venues like the Lincoln Theatre. He’s booked to play even bigger shows this summer, including a June date at Merriweather. We were shooting from a fixed position and lights were very dramatic. Not sure what I can say about Sleater-Kinney and their reunion tour that hasn’t already been said. This was a tough shoot. I’ve shot Erykah Badu a few times in the past but last weekend’s show at the Fillmore Silver Spring was by far the best. And I’m not saying that because it was the first time I shot her in somewhat decent light. We were only given two songs, which wasn’t ideal but turned out just fine.
