One of the hottest names in music today is Kamasi Washington. His work with Thundercat and Kendrick Lamar have earned him plaudits from critics all over the world. And after seeing his live show, it’s easy to see why. I am by no means a jazz head but I couldn’t help but be impressed with his performance at the Howard Theatre. It was mesmerizing. Read the review in the Washington Post if you don’t believe me.…
The set-up for this Madonna show was a lot like her last US tour – shooting three songs from the soundboard. Madonna spent two of the songs on the catwalk extending from the stage, but she only came about halfway down, so she was still a good distance from us. If you’re shooting this tour, bring at least a 300, but a 400 would be best. She actually has a platform for the photos to shoot from, but…

2015 Sweetlife Festival Day One
Posted on August 25, 2015
The Sweetlife Festival has grown quite a bit from it’s modest DJ’s-in-a-parking-lot beginnings in 2010 to the two day festival headlined by Kendrick Lamar and Calvin Harris. Credit and respect to the crew behind the festival because they’ve grown the event each and every year, booking bigger and better bands. However, I think we saw this year that a two day festival might be a little much for this event. In previous years, the draw of Sweetlife…
You can always count on My Morning Jacket to bring a GREAT opener on tour with them. A few years ago it was Neko Case. Last time it was Band of Horses. This year it was Jason Isbell. The timing of this show was fortuitous as well, as Isbell’s album Something More Than Free had just been released and was on its way to a Top 10 debut week. Isbell doesn’t exactly tear it up on stage performance-wise,…
This was, quite simply, the second best show I’ve seen this year. Number one on that list (understandably) was Prince’s greatest hits set in Baltimore, but this show was a close, close second. I think Chris Richards summed up the show best in this tweet. The vibe in the venue that night was unforgettable. We were allowed the first three songs, which ended up being about 20 minutes of show time. He spent the third song behind…

My Morning Jacket @ Merriweather
Posted on August 12, 2015
Back in 2011 I shot My Morning Jacket at Merriweather for the first time and it was mind-blowing. I saw an amazing show and more importantly (to me) I got some amazing photos. I’ve shot them almost every time they returned to Merriweather (missed them one year because of the WHCD and didn’t shoot them when they opened for Dylan) but I haven’t been able to catch lightning in a bottle the second time. Jim and company…
From past experience I knew this would be a tough shoot and that was certainly the case. Interpol have always relied on moody atmospherics during their live shows and their gig at Echostage in Washington, D.C. was no different. The first song was red, the second green and purple and the third was spotlights and strobes. The band were in fine form. They been touring most of the year behind their latest album, El Pintor, and they…
I had some reservations about the show (mostly the undercard) before heading out to RFK on the 4th of July to shoot this show but it ended up being a really fun day, despite the crappy weather. The Foos were amazing (of course). After seeing them at the 9:30 Club and the Black Cat the last two times they came through town, it was a little weird seeing them on such a big stage, but shooting them…
