Concerts Fillmore Silver Spring

Lee Brice @ Fillmore Silver Spring

This was an unusual event. Instead of the usual order of artist performances from opener to headliner, Lee Brice conducted his show at the Fillmore Silver Spring as a type of songwriters in the round event. He played a couple songs to start the night and then one by one brought out a few friends to play their own songs and then do some group stuff all together. It was a refreshing change of pace from the…

Concerts featured Patriot Center

Sigur Ros @ Patriot Center

It’s been a while since a large band started their US tour here in D.C., but that’s exactly what Sigur Ros did last week, kicking off their 2013 trek across the States at the Patriot Center in Fairfax, VA. I must confess I had no idea how popular the band was. Fans packed the place to the rafters. Unfortunately there was a big restriction to this show. All photogs had to pick a side and shoot our…

The first event in this years Ertegun Jazz Series was held last month in conjunction with Black History Month. 9:30 Club Concerts

Alt-J @ 9:30 Club

Like Django Django, Alt-J is a British band riding a wave of buzz from across the pond stateside. Unlike Django Django, I found these guys pretty boring and definitely not my thing. Lights or this gig were pretty brutal. No front lighting to speak o and other than the swirly lights in the first photo, most deep red and purple washes. Yuck. The bassist was the only band member to do much on stage. They keyboardist stage…

9:30 Club Concerts

Django Django @ 9:30 Club

Django Django have garnered quite a few plaudits across the pond for their debut, self titled album. I enjoyed their show and came away thinking they reminded me of one of my favorite groups, The Beta Band. Lo and behold, when I was browsing Django Django’s wikipedia page, I saw that their drummer David Maclean is the brother of former Beta Band member John Maclean. I had heard bad things about the lighting for this show, and…

Ertegun Jazz Series, December 2012

Every few months the Embassy of Turkey hosts a jazz concert as part of their Coca-Cola Jazz Series to honor the legacy of music industry titan Ahmet Ertegun and they contract me to take photos of the reception and the concert. It’s always a very interesting mix of celebrities, politicians and musicians and the concerts are all top notch. December’s event featured appearances from Madeleine Albright (straight off the plane from an overseas trip) and Herbie Hancock and…

La Sandia @ Tyson’s Corner

A while back the fine folks at Richard Sandoval restaurants had me out to La Sandia at Tyson’s Corner to shoot some new dishes and drinks that were being added to the menu. La Sandia is located at the Tyson’s Corner Center and serves lunch and dinner daily. Full photo set below.   La Sandia @ Tyson’s Corner – Images by Kyle Gustafson
