I LOVE Solange’s cover of “Stillness is the Move” by Dirty Projectors but I missed both of her local shows leading up to her appearance on the Main Stage at the 2013 Sweetlife Music and Food Festival. I had heard good things about DIIV, so I hustled to Silver Spring to catch their opening set for How To Destroy Angels. I liked their muscular indie rock but wasn’t happy with the low lights and the tendency of the lead singer to play with his back facing the crowd. I was so excited for this show. Since Coachella I’d been hearing great things about the show and seeing some awesome photos with HTDA’s admittedly awesome stage and lighting set up. But I got none of that at their Fillmore Silver Spring show. I was incredibly let down by the lighting. Bajofondo @9:30 Club

This was a fun gig (compared to all the boring gigs I’ve been shooting lately). Bajofondo is an eight person group that plays a mix of tango and electric music. Not unlike Thievery Coproration. Foxygen @ Rock N Roll Hotel

Foxygen is a hotly tipped band that’s blowing up on Pitchfork and all the other usual suspects. I liked their show at the Rock N Roll Hotel but thought their sound was a bit derivitive. Shooting at the Hotel presented the normal challenges – an extremely dark room and not enough light to really freeze action.
