This show was an absolute joy to shoot and I’m really glad I took the assignment. I shot Kelis a few years ago at the 9:30 Club when she opened for Robyn, but she was in her dance diva phase and I didn’t really like her show. These days she’s leaning more soul diva with her new album Food, and her show was incredible. And yes, she is VERY easy on the eyes.
SHOOTING NOTES: Sadly Kelis stayed glued to her mic stand and didn’t move around much during the first three songs of the night. All that happened after song four. Sigh. Plus, she had a music stand to her right, so that greatly cut down on the available angles to shoot from. Lighting during the first song was tough, but it got better after that.
