This was my third time shooting Luke Bryan, and the second as a headliner. I really enjoyed his show at Jiffy Lube Live last year, but this year it just seemed like more of the same. The show is still great, it’s just that the two songs we shot this year were basically the same thing we shot last year. His hit “Rain Is A Good Thing” was second in the set last year, and this year it was third, same projections and everything.
SHOOTING NOTES: Just like last year, Bryan has an extended T leading out from the main stage and we were positioned at the end of it for songs 2 and 3. predictably, song 1 was the most dynamic song and the one I would have preferred to shoot, but it had some pyro on the main stage (well away from where we were standing) and I’m guessing there’s some insurance conditions involved there. Bryan spends a good amount of time on the extended stage, but you’re so close you’re basically shooting up his nose. It’s a tight fit with two video cameras also in the “pit” so moving around much really isn’t an option. I will say Bryan and guitarist Michael Carter did pose for us at one point (top image), and that is always appreciated. Make sure you bring a wide lens for this gig.
