And to think I almost missed this show. I got a last minute assignment from the Post to cover the 30th Anniversary Concert at the 9:30 Club and I got to be par tof what turned out to be an incredible night. A host of artists from the club’s past and present played. Old warhorses like The Slickee Boys, Tiny Desk Unit, Tommy Keene and other warmed up the crowd and were quickly followed by a newer generation of acts including Bob Mould, Ted Leo, Ian Mackaye and The Evens and Clutch. The big surprise of the evening turned out to be a set by Fall Church’s own Dave Grohl, who played “Everlong” solo and then brought his old band members in Scream to play some Bad Brains covers. It was pretty surreal. The Pietasters and local go-go act Trouble Funk brought down the house at the end and put the cherry on top of an incredible night. All in all, quite a night. Be sure to read Chris Richards review of the night over on Washingtonpost.com. And check out these and many other photos in the Post slideshow.
