Man, I was in a really bad mood before this concert. I don’t like Friday and Saturday shows at the Black cat because the headliner tends to go on real late and that nukes the next day for me. So I wasn’t exactly looking forward to this gig. But then Bilal came on and he was INCREDIBLE and all my negative thoughts vanished.

I’m selling Bilal short here, but his thing is basically an approximation of early 80’s Prince. But here’s the thing. He’s REALLY good at it and Prince was AWESOME in the early 80’s. I enjoyed his set immensely. He was also very talkative and witty in between songs, which is always a big plus for me. WASHINGTON, DC - March 15th, 2013 - R&B crooner Bilal performs to a capacity crowd at the Black Cat in Washington, D.C. And believe it or not, the lights at the Cat were pretty good. These might be the best photos I’ve ever taken there. I shot this show with my D700 with my 17-35/2.8, 50/1.8 and 85/1.4. I don’t have lens hoods for my primes but I think that worked for me this time.
