This was a one of a kind gig (well, actually two of a kind, they repeated the gig the next night) that I was super excited about. Nas performing his all time classic debut album Illmatic at the Kennedy Center with the National Symphony Orchestra? I was definitely in for that gig. It was just as incredible as you’d imagine, too. I loved the mixed crowd of hip-hop heads and regular Kennedy Center patrons. Nas was on fire, too. He really enjoyed himself and that energy was reciprocated from the crowd.
The show wasn’t a straight run though of Illmatic, Nas included many of his other hits, including an incredible encore without the orchestra of “Made You Look” and “One Mic.” The crowd went absolutely crazy for that.
