I wasn’t really sure what to expect from this show, other than it would be a soundboard shoot. J Lo is touring with Enrique Iglesias for this tour, they are co-headlining but J LO performs last, and Enrique is famous for sticking the photogs at the very back of the venue. Luckily, for this show, we were stationed in front of the soundboard.
I rented a 300mm/2.8 for this gig, hoping that would be long enough and it proved to be just the right length. The stage for this show had a long catwalk that extended well into the crowd and both J Lo and Enrique used it during our allotted three songs.
Lights were great for this show, too good at times. There were these very intense washes of lights during the first two songs that would change my exposure by over 2 stops and still blow everything out, so instead of chasing them I metered for the in-between moments and got what I could then. The lighting for the third song was more even and gave me a lot of keepers.
For her part, J Lo was fun to shoot. She’s a performer and puts her dance background to good use. She actually spent more time dancing than singing. I wonder what the kids on Idol would say if they could critique her performance? I’ll have the Enrique photos up in a day or two. I”m working through quite a backlog.
