I’ve been a fan of These United States for quite some time and it was a real pleasure to finally get to cover them on behalf of the Post. I booked them to play DCist’s Unbuckled concert series way back in 2007 (along with Pela, who are making a lot of noise these days as We Are Augustines) and have been following their career ever since. They’re really great people and deserve all the success that’s coming their way.

Their show at the Black cat was a typical tUS affair, loosey-goosey, good-time tunes and a very amped up crowd. There were lots of smiles in the room and everyone had a great time. I always jump at the chance to shoot shows that I hope will have this kind of vibe, and it’s always a beautiful thing when the band and audience can get on the same wavelength. If you haven’t seen these guys live or listened to any of their music, I highly recommend you fix that ASAP.
