Every once a while a big artist will start their national tour in D.C. and a few weeks ago the 9:30 Club had the pleasure of hosting international superstar Adele on the first night of her very sold out US tour. While I’ve never listened to her music that much, I was very excited to get a chance to shoot the top record seller of 2011 in such an intimate venue.
Sadly, our view that night was anything but intimate. Adele stuck us way up in the VIP area, literally as far from the stage as she could put us. I rented a 300mm to try and bridge the gap between our vantage point and the stage and I’m glad I did. Lights weren’t that great, very dark on songs one and three, but much better for song two.
From all reports I’ve heard, this is standard treatment for this tour, so it’s a bit reassuring to know it wasn’t just us.
