This was without a doubt one of the most anticipated shows in D.C. of the entire year. Sam Smith’s career is exploding right now and honestly I am shocked he was played a venue as “small” as Echostage because the vibe from the audience for this show was incredible and I’m sure he can handle much bigger spaces. Smith’s voice was in time form this evening, and he projects himself as a humble guy and laid on the Taylor Swift-style “Aw Shucks” routine pretty thick. But the crowd at it up and he was in total control.

SHOOTING NOTES: This was pretty standard lighting for Echostage, even with Smith’s big stage set up. There was a reliance of spotlights that I usually don’t see, but then no one was watching anyone else on that stage. Smith moves a round a good bit, but what I would;t have given for someone to remove that offing mic stand when he wasn’t using it.
