M.I.A. has long been one of my favorite artists to shoot, but I have been continually frustrated by the lack of a proper light show at her club gigs. That was no longer an issue on her latest tour, which hit Echostage a few weeks ago. Other than the lack of free parking around the venue, I am really starting to enjoy shows at Echostage. The photo pit is huge and the lights are always pretty decent (at least for the headliners).
M.I.A. turned in one of the best shows I’ve seen this year on this night. I had to keep myself from dancing in the pit during the first three, especially during “Bucky Done Gone,” which she played second. She seemed to be enjoying herself onstage as well, which hasn’t always been the case for her. She was totally into the show and the crowd responded in kind. I stuck around until near the end of the main set and even bought a shirt! The show was that good.
