It’s been a while since a large band started their US tour here in D.C., but that’s exactly what Sigur Ros did last week, kicking off their 2013 trek across the States at the Patriot Center in Fairfax, VA. I must confess I had no idea how popular the band was. Fans packed the place to the rafters.
Unfortunately there was a big restriction to this show. All photogs had to pick a side and shoot our three songs from there. And since this was the first date of the tour, I had no info to work off of as far as choosing a side. I decided on the right side of the pit (stage left) because that side of the stage seemed like it had clearer sightlines (the band had a ton of monitors and lighting equipment on the front of the stage, severely limiting our view). Luckily I chose right, Jonsi spent much of our three songs facing in our direction.
Lights were mostly deep reds but there were a few blessed moments of clarity. Honestly, I expect much worse.
