A few friends alerted me to this today:
I was as surprised as anyone. I don’t recall ever speaking to anyone at Complex Magazine so I had no idea I was even on their radar. I’m humbled that they would like my work enough to recognize me along with so many other talented photographers. I like to think I’m one of the best, if not THE best, concert photographer in the D.C. area, but since I’m not in NYC, Chicago or L.A., I really have no idea if anyone is paying attention to the photos I post on this site. But one of the things I always tell other creatives is that you never know who is watching your work. All it takes is one email, one phone call or one chance meeting and your career can take off. So keep grinding. Thanks to Complex for the honor and congrats to all the other photogs that made the list.
I know a few things about making lists on the internet and invariably, deserving people are left off. And quite a few of my favorite photographers are nowhere to be seen on Complex’s list. So I just wanted to give a shout out to Danny North (seriously, he’d be #1 on my list), David Andrako (this Jack White photo is the best shot I’ve seen this year), Kirstie Shanley, Randy Cremean and Josh Sisk just to name a few off the top of my head. I’ll stop naming people here lest I push myself out of the Top 50.
Couple this with my third ever photo on the front page of today’s Washington Post, and today was a pretty good day.
