Sleigh Bells landed the opening slot for D.C.’s portion of the Red Hot Chili Peppers tour, bringing the duo back to town just a few weeks after their March show at the 9:30 Club. I said most everything I needed to say about the band in that post, so just enjoy these photos.
Lights for this gig were less strobe-y than their usual treatment, which meant a somewhat less frenetic shoot, especially where lead singer Alexis Krauss was concerned. The guitarists stayed mostly at the back of the stage, away from the light. I wanted to get a nice wide shot with the flag as the background like I did last time, but the lighting and the huge stage monitors nixed that idea. I’ve said before that I’m not a big fan of Sleigh Bells but I will say I thought their show worked perfectly in an arena. In a club, it’s overkill, but in a larger room, the music is less in your face as it fills up the venue. I definitely enjoyed their show more this time around.
