*UPDATE* – B&H has the Nikon D700 in stock for the new, low price of $2199.95.
Good news for people (like me) that aren’t too enamored by the new Nikon D800. It looks like Nikon is going to keep producing the D700 and drop the price by $500 (at least here in the US). That’s great news. One of the reasons I made the switch to Nikon is that even though I bought two different cameras in the D3 and the D700, they both had the same sensor and I new I could take the same photo on either camera. It was also nice to have a pro body in the D3 when the assignment warranted, but also have the option of carrying the much lighter D700 when I needed to.That’s all out the window with the D4 and D800. I have no need for a 36 megapixel monster, and truth be told, the D700 is still plenty of camera for me. But act fast, since Nikon won’t keep making the D700 for much longer.
Here are some of my favorite photos taken with my trusty Nikon D700.

February 26, 2012 at 10:12 amIts a real bummer that there’s no smaller raw option on the d800. Bizarre. TIFFs are going to be 1/4 GB. Still, can’t wait to see what these files look like with a nice lens!
