The two biggest rap stars in the world performing together on stage at the same time? Where do I sign up? This week’s Watch The Throne concert from Jay-Z and Kanye West at the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C. was everything the hype would lead you to believe. Two superstars at the top of their game absolutely killing it (or “going HAM” if you will).
This was a very hard shoot but the photos I got were really rewarding. We shot the first two songs fromt he mezzanine so we could get both performers on their rising platforms. Lights weren’t great during these two songs, mostly spotlights and the lights from the cubes themselves, but it got much better for the third song.
Kanye seemed preoccupied, like he wasn’t all there, but Jay was having the time of his life. He was really having fun up there and I think these photos show that. It was very cool to see.
I knew when I took the photo at the top of this post hat it was a great one. VH1 and Rolling Stone agreed, both are ran it on their websites.
