The lastest project from uber-producer Danger Mouse is Broken Bells, featuring James mercer of The Shins on vocals. The duo, backed by a full band, specialize in shimmery, downtempo pop and played to a sold out crowd at the 9:30 Club. Lighting was generally pretty good and I had plenty of time to move around in the pit during the first three songs.
Danger Mouse played the first song seated at a keyboard in the middle of the stage and then then rest of the set behind the drum kit. I shot this gig with both my 24-70mm/2.8 and 70-200mm/2.8 VR I. I normally don;t use my longer lens in the 9:30 but I decided to try something different tonight and I’m glad I did. Due to the stage set up, I had a fairly unobstructed view and good angle on Mercer shooting from stage right to stage left.
