Paul McCartney @ Verizon Center

Paul McCartney Performs at the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C.

Macca! I’ve seen him three times and shot him once before but obis. I was SUPER excited to get this assignment. He’s 70+ but still plays for 3 hours and I don’t care who you are but if you don’t melt when he plays “Love Me Do”, well, I can’t do nothin’ for you. We got two songs at the Soundboard and they went by in less than 7 minutes. Talk about FAST. I borrowed a D500 from Nikon professional…

Janelle Monae and Erykah Badu @ Merriweather Post Pavilion

This isn’t the first time I’ve shot Erykah Badu and Janelle Monae at the same show. I shot both of these amazing ladies at DAR Constitution Hall in 2010 and the show was n’t that different from this year’s performance at Merriweather as part of the Summer Spirit Festival. At the 2010 show, Badu headlined, wore a bulky jacket, didn’t move much at all during her performance and still tore the roof off. Pretty much the same for this year.…

Prophets of Rage @ EagleBank Arena

I’ve often told folks that the one band that was at the top of my MUST SHOOT list for a long time was Rage Against The Machine. I saw them a ton in the 90’s (I was at this show and it was BANANAS) and have always wanted the chance to capture their energy through my lenses. The Prophets of Rage show August is probably as close as I’ll come and I am totally fine with that. I know this…

Duran Duran @ Verizon Center

Not sure how I made it to 2016 before seeing Duran Duran, but that’s the way it worked out. That’s a shame, but this was a really great tour to see them on. Chic opened and they were freaking amazing. Then Simon Le Bon and company took the stage and gave us a hit-filled 19 song set that absolutely played. I was thrilled to hear “A View To A Kill” and a snippet of “New Moon on Monday” and we…

The Joy Formidable @ 9:30 Club

The Joy Formidable are such a fun band, it’s hard to pass up a chance to shoot them. So many bands these days just fucking stand there on stage, but not this Welsh trio. It’s all you can do to keep up with them! They are all over the place. Lead singer and guitarist Ritzy Bryan is certainly the attraction here (she has better guitar poses than most anyone) but don’t sleep on bassist Rhydian Davies or drummer Matthew Thomas. Stick with…

Smashing Pumpkins @ Lincoln Theatre

Here’s something most people don’t know about me. Before (What’s The Story) Morning Glory came out in late 1995, my favorite band on the planet was the Smashing Pumpkins. Gish and Siamese Dream pretty much soundtracked my first two years at college. I listened to those albums incessantly. I could not get enough. It helped that the Pumpkins were pretty good about playing North Carolina (where I grew up and went to school). I had seen them a few times…

Chic @ Verizon Center

It’s been wonderful to see the long overdue resurgence for Nile Rodgers and Chic, both musically and personally. From beating cancer to making a smash record with Daft Punk, Rodgers is finally getting the props that had eluded him since Chic’s heyday. And let me tell you, he was on fire during this show. I try not to get too invested in shows in order for me to do my job properly, but I have to admit I took a…

Pusha T @ 9:30 Club

I had such a great time shooting Pusha T the last time he was in town, there was no way I was going to miss him this time through. Touring behind his awesome new album, King Push – The Darkest Before The Dawn, Pusha brought a very hyped crowd out to the 9:30 Club and delivered an amazing set. He’s grown so much as a performer so this smallish (for him) show was no sweat. If he’s coming through your…
