The Civil Wars @ Jammin Java

The Civil Wars, a new indie folk duo consisting of Joy Williams ans John Paul White, have generated quite a bit of buzz wit their debut album Barton Hollow. Generally shows at the Strathmore Music Hall in Bethesda are somewhat stuffy affairs featuring singer-songwriter types like Kris Kristofferson, Rufus Wainwright or Joan Baez. Lissie is a performer that garnered a lot of buzz in the last few months, and I got to see why a few weeks ago. She’s a natural performer and despite being relative newcomer, she was already a seasoned pro at working the crowd. The light for this show was surprisingly good, and there was a photo pit to boot!
