I am always excited to shoot in a photo pit at the 9:30 Club, but this was still a very tough shoot. Lights for this show were deep washes of red, purple and gold punctuated by bright backlights. It was rare to get the same color of light all the way across the stage. Couple this with me trying out my new camera for the first time and it was all I could do to keep up with lead singer Maja Ivarsson. As you can see, I kept my camera trained on her most of the time. As a commenter pointed out in my review for DCist, “thanks for sparing us the obligatory shots of the dudes in the band.” Well said. I shot this gig mostly with my 24-70/2.8 on my new 1Ds Mk II. I switched to my 50/1.4 for a bit, but I liked the options the 24-70 gave me a little better.
