Robyn @ Verizon Center

Robyn Performs at the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C.

Robyn’s slot opening for Coldplay was the just the latest in awesome indie pacts opening for one of rocks supposedly most boring bands. Say what you want about the band but they have a pretty great track record of picking great openers (Elbow, Idlewild, Santigold, The Flaming Lips to name a few and Frank Ocean is doing an upcoming European leg). Obviously since I am a big fan, I was very excited about seeing Robyn and she didn’t let me down.

Her set started out pretty subdued but gradually ratcheted up the energy. She and her band didn’t have much room on the stage, so she didn’t move around a ton, but she had ample room to dance around. We were supposed to shoot the first three songs but since they were a medley, we actually ended up shooting five or six tunes. Bonus!

Robyn was lit perfectly, which is not something you see for most opening acts on arena tours. She was mostly lit but a straight spotlight and while it might not have been that great in terms of variety for those seated way in the back, it was perfect for what I needed.

“Dancing On My Own” started just as we were getting ushered out of the pit, but I snuck back in to see her play “Indestructible” and “Call Your Girlfriend.” Both sounded amazing and have been on repeat ever since. Can’t wait to see her again and I can only hope it’s soon.

Check setlist.fm, they generally have setlists from each night, or at least other shows on the tour so you can approximate.
