In many ways this was the perfect assignment. Big show, great lights, a name artist and great results. I can’t say I know much (or anything) about Demi Lovato, but I had a great time shooting this show. She’s a very energetic performer and I have a soft spot for women that are fans of the hair flip because that can only lead to EPIC HAIR SHOTS!
Shooting conditions were the usual for Wolf Trap. We were required to stay in a small area , stage left, about 8 or so rows back from the stage. I hate being forced to shoot a show from one side (and in the audience no less) but it actually worked out pretty well for this show. Yes, whenever Lovato was on the opposite side of the stage, she was basically out of range of my 70-200/2.8, but when she hit our side of the stage, I got some great images. Luckily she moves around the stage A LOT and enjoys playing to the crowd, so there were plenty of great shots to be had if you were patient.
