The Civil Wars, a new indie folk duo consisting of Joy Williams ans John Paul White, have generated quite a bit of buzz wit their debut album Barton Hollow. They packed Jammin Java in Vienna a few weekends ago and it’s very plain to see that this group will be playing much larger venues in the near future. Armed solely with White’s acoustic guitar, the duo showed amazing chemistry and charisma and played the most amazing cover of “You Are My Sunshine” that you will ever hear. Keep an eye on these two.

Same frustrating lighting conditions as usual at Jammin’ Java. They actually have a decent lighting set up there but don’t use any of it to light the background, which leaves a solid black background and no fill light whatsoever. This does not go well with performers dressed in black. I shot this gig with my 2.8 zooms, but next time will probably just go with my faster primes.
